Urban Bloom
A program that focuses on making the neighborhood look beautiful through tactical urbanism. This refers to a city, organizational, or citizen-led approach to neighborhood building using short-term, low-cost, and scalable interventions to catalyze long-term change.
Our Vision
Community gardens will flourish with homegrown, accessible vegetables. Artwork will be displayed through recycled mediums, such as shipping containers, water barrels, and bicycles, representing the rich diversity and beauty in the Northwest Landing Neighborhood.
Art Installations
Alongside the Blight to Light project, a new sunflower mural adorns the back of Aspire House and our fences are covered in a tapestry of patterns and colorful flowers.
Blight to Light Project
The Blight to Light project started in November 2023 thanks to a grant gifted by the Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF), Mayor Joe Hogsett, and the Indianapolis Foundation. Through the Elevation Grant, we transformed four neighboring alleyways into safer, cleaner, and more practical pathways for all to enjoy. Teams of residents, artists, students, and design professionals have developed plans to install lighting, fencing, and artwork in each alleyway.
The Courtyard
On May 3, 2024, Pepper Construction organized a volunteer day for their staff to create a courtyard space behind Aspire House. With around 40 volunteers and almost $16,000 of donated material, the courtyard is a functional, beautiful space filled with plants, seating, and outdoor decorations. Thank you to Pepper Construction, Shelby Materials, Construction Waste, US Aggregates, Indy Edge, Carroll Construction Supply, US Hydrovac, and IMI for donating supplies for this project.
TeenWorks
In June and July 2024, a group of high school students from TeenWorks helped with a variety of projects while gaining valuable skills and work experience. The students learned all about gardening, from planting herbs to weeding. Using compostable materials, the students installed mulch beds and created a sitting area in one of our gardens. In addition, they learned how to care for a garden by installing rain barrels.
